I’m doing research for my latest Liberty Investigations book. The first installment BARE FACTS is in stores now.

The second book BARE WITNESS will be in stores in October 2008.

But the last book Anna’s story is still a work in progress. While doing web research I stumbled on a group of real women who do what the Liberty Investigations women do…but in real life. They are called Bounty Girls and they are based out of Miami, FL. Here’s a link to an article about them on msnbc.com. There are some great tips for women on protecting themselves, so check it out!

Armchair traveller

The book I’m working on now takes place all over the world. I’ve enjoyed reading about locales that are foreign to me–some of them places I’ve always wanted to go, other places I’ve never really thought of. Like Melbourne Australia. I’ve just never really been intrigued by Australia.

I have a lot of friends from Australia thanks to writing for Silhouette. In fact I have friends from all over the world now. People who have lived outside of the U.S. and brought back with them tales and traditions from other countries.

I’m also having fun exploring traditions. My background is Italian-American on my mom’s side and Irish-American on my father’s. There was a time when they would never have been allowed to marry, but they met in the 60s in Miami so that wasn’t a problem.

Some of the traditions I’m using in this book are the superstitions that many Italians have. It’s funny that devoutly Catholic people would be so superstitious but we are. So this book is dealing with a curse put on one Italian family by another one.

I can still remember my grandmother (first generation American born) showing my cousins and I how to put the evil eye on someone. It’s a strong curse and one she wouldn’t do when any of us were standing in front of her. So to be honest I’m not exactly sure how to do it…I mean from the side I know what it looks like but facing someone I’m lost!

To be honest I don’t believe that strongly in curses. But then I’m an optimist and believe that things will just naturally get better. What about you? Believe in curses or some other tradition that has been in your family for years?

Reading this I was reminded of the friends I have in my life. After the last year which has been long and full of ups and downs, I really had a chance to know the value of true friends. Of people who like you not because you live in the right neighborhood or drive the right car, but because they know who you are at the very core of your being.

I sent this quote to my dearest friends with a note thanking them for the gift of their friendship. I hope that you have friends in your life who are the same.

I’m really cooking on my story this morning. I switched POV and got the scene I was looking for in my book. Marco Bucatti is such a sexy guy. He’s also alpha (like all the Desire heroes are). How do you feel about alpha males? I really like a guy who takes charge. It’s not that I want a man to make all my decisions for me but it’s nice to have a man around who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go for it.

Procrastination

Okay I’m supposed to be working this morning on Marco’s book. He’s this sexy Italian Formula One race car driver who is cursed to be lucky in life or lucky in love.

The book is fun and I’m excited to be writing his story finally…I had to complete two other books before I could start on his book, but this morning I’m struggling a bit to find the right words. Its as if the anticipation of writing his story has eclipsed the actually writing of the book.

I have just updated the music for my soundtrack and am listening the the soul sound of Corrine Bailey Rae. Have you heard her music? It’s really very deep and resonates when you listen to the words. The music (not the lyrics) is smooth and melodic.

See…procrastination! I’m unable to stay focused this morning.

But that being said I do need to get back to work!

Yay! I’m so glad it’s Friday. This weekend is going to be a low-key one after my manic Florida Spring Break trip. Here is a photo of some of the fun we had. I love getting away from the routine but some times (like this time!) plan too much to do on a vacation and it’s not relaxing. We had fun but we all need a few days rest!

The Spanish Aristocrat’s Woman

This book is now in stores and I’m very excited about it. I used my own body issues as the basis for Kara. She’s a size 12 girl in a size 2 world. I know size 12 isn’t fat and so does Kara but she can’t help feeling so big and not really a part of the high society crowd she was born into.

I really wanted to explore the fact that image is so powerful today and how we look no matter what our mothers told us when we were growing up…you know the thing about what’s on the inside is what really matters…looks are so important.

Everything I read in magazines and on tv make it impossible for a woman to just be happy being herself. Even if I have to run up to school to drop off forgotten homework pages I have to put on make-up and get dressed.

Do you feel this way? Is it possible today for a woman to just be happy in her own skin?

Spring Break

So this is one of the years that my birthday actually fell during our Spring Break. We went to Florida to visit our family and spend some time in the sun working on our tans.

I had a great birthday with my extended family and here’s a picture from my big day where my sneaky nephew Ryan got me in the face with the icing from my own cake…don’t worry I got him back!
