Batten down the hatches
(posted 13 Sep 2008)
When we moved away from Central Florida three years ago I thought my days of having to think about hurricane preparedness were over. But not so. Hurricane Ike is hitting Texas with a vengeance and bringing some winds and rains all the way up in my neck of the woods–North Texas.
If you aren’t familiar with Texas geography (and I wasn’t until I moved here!), we are a long way from any coast. But the sheer size of this storm is immense and it is a serious one.
Having grown up in the post Hurricane Andrew Florida I feel a bit strange worrying about a category two hurricane but I’ve already seen the devastation in Galveston and that made me realize that no matter how big or strong something is it can still be very serious.
We have planned a pj’s and movie weekend. Well I won’t be participating until I finish some pages on a book that’s overdue. But we just decided to make the best of the inclement weather coming toward us.
We have food, water, the all important battery operated radios and flashlights and we are ready for whatever comes at us.
